Building strong student teacher relationships through intercultural understanding: Tuesday, December 5 at 10:15 am

We’re looking forward to this talk from Schaumberg bilingual resource teachers, Naseem Alibhai and  Adriana Caballero, about how to integrate student experiences and multicultural resources into instruction. Through close partnerships with families, teachers can increase student engagement. The talk will also share positive self-concepts that can be used to boost confidence.

The night event with Dr. Luis Cruz: Tuesday, December 5 at 6:00 pm

Dr. Cruz will speak on the theme of Transforming School Culture: Exploring Effective Leadership. He works with schools across the U.S. to help educators to create a culture and environment that supports all students as they learn. Dr. Cruz also supports school leadership to work with students to ensure that the needs of diverse populations, including English Learners, are met.

The Undeniable Impact of Knowing and Advocating for English Learners: Thursday, December 7 at 10:15 am

Shelley Fairbairn and Stephaney Jones-Vo, authors of Differentiating Instruction and Assessment for English Language Learners: A Guide for K-12 Teachers, will deliver this breakout session about how teachers can enhance student belonging and engagement through their actions. They will also talk about how to use pieces of student data to inform instruction, and how to understand English Learners and advocate for them in school and life.

And don’t miss Mawi Learning Founder and CEO Mawi Asgedom deliver the opening keynote, How Educators Inspire and Lead During Difficult Times. Mawi will talk about the unique challenges faced by English Learners and their educators, and how educators can work to empower English Learners to seek success in school. Plus, stop by Mawi Learning's own breakout session on Friday, December 8 at 11:30 am to learn more about how the 6 Keys to Academic and Social Emotional Growth for English Learners. This breakout session is based upon Mawi's new book with Dr. Johanna Even, Empowering English Learners in the Classroom.
