Funding and Technical Support Will Fuel Ideas for New ELL Tools

Mawi Learning is proud to announce it is a winner of the NewSchools Ignite English Language Learning (ELL) Challenge, a funding competition created by NewSchools Venture Fund. As one of 13 organizations awarded grants, Mawi Learning will join other winners as part of an accelerator cohort to develop better tools for ELL students. ELL students are one of the fastest growing student groups in American schools, currently representing 10 percent of all students.

Mawi Learning is an established leader in ELL education, offering Super ELL courses that are used in districts nationwide to meet the unique social emotional needs of English Learners. The support from NewSchools will allow us to expand our grade 7-12 Super ELL suite to elementary ELL students. “We are honored and delighted to partner with NewSchools to build growth mindset, academic confidence, and social agility in English Learners,” said Mawi Asgedom, CEO and Founder of Mawi Learning. “As a former ELL student myself, I know there are no limits to how English Learners can grow and contribute.”

“I am excited to work with all the companies in the new ELL Challenge cohort,” said Tonika Cheek Clayton. “The need is tremendous. Educators have told us there is a real scarcity of ELL products, and that’s why we decided to do this challenge. They are looking for sophisticated tools that meet the needs of ELL students across multiple grade levels and subject areas.”
